Dr. Sidransky is a renowned oncologist, research scientist and Professor of Oncology and Cellular & Molecular Medicine at John Hopkins University and Hospital. Dr. Sidransky was Vice Chairman of ImClone Systems until its acquisition by Eli Lilly for $6.5B in 2008. He founded several biotechnology companies, including Oncormed Pharmaceuticals, (NASDAQ: ONCM), a genetic testing company that was sold to Gene Logic in 1998, and Response Genetics (NASDAQ: RGDX), a developer of markers for cancer therapy.

The Honorable Dr. David J. Shulkin was the ninth Secretary of the US Department of Veterans Affairs. Nominated by President Trump to serve in his Cabinet, Secretary Shulkin was confirmed by the US Senate by a vote of 100-0. Secretary Shulkin previously served as Under Secretary for Health having been appointed by President Obama and confirmed unanimously by the US Senate. As Secretary, Dr. Shulkin represented the 21 million American veterans and was responsible for the nation’s largest integrated health care system with over 1,200 sites of care, serving over 9 million Veterans. Gilla Kaplan, PhD

Former Director of TB Program, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF)

Dr. Kaplan is an authority on various aspects of the host immune response to mycobacterial pathogens, including the causative agents of leprosy and tuberculosis (TB). Her work has encompassed developing a deep, holistic understanding of the cellular immune response and how this can be harnessed for host adjunctive therapies. She spent her career as an academic research scientist leading her laboratory in investigations focusing on human disease, exploring novel experimental medicine approaches that harness the immune response for disease control. Gilla joined the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), first as a member of the Global Health Program Scientific Advisory Committee and subsequently progressing to the position of Director of the TB program for five years. Building on three decades of research experience, at Rockefeller University in New York City (for 20 years) and then at the Public Health Research Institute Center at UMDNJ (for 10 years), she led the reshaping of the tuberculosis program at BMGF. Dr. Kaplan is the recipient of multiple grants from the NIH-NIAID and other funding organizations for her research.

Samir Khleif, MD
